NOV는 GustoMSC의 검증된 NG-16000X 설계를 기반으로 하는 차세대 풍력발전기 설치용 잭업 선박의 핵심 장비 설계 및 공급 계약을 2025년 중반에 수주하였다. 이 획기적인 프로젝트를 통해 한화오션은 최첨단 해상풍력설치선박을 건조할 예정이며, 2028년 2분기에 인도될 예정이다.
본 설치선은 GustoMSC의 NG-16000X급 디자인으로, 미국에서 건조된 1척과 한화오션이 건조하여 카델러(Cadeler)사에 납품한 두 척에 이은 네 번째 모델이다. 한국의 미래 해상풍력 수요에 맞게 설계된 NG-16000X는 향상된 적재 및 인양 능력을 갖추고 있으며, 더 길어진 잭업 레그로 더 깊은 수심에서도 작업이 가능하다. 특히, LNG 및 암모니아 등 대체연료 사용에도 적합하도록 설계되었다.
특히 본선에 탑재될 가변 속도 구동장치를 갖춘 GustoMSC 고유의 랙 앤 피니언 (Rack & Pinion) 잭업 시스템은 견고하고 통합된 솔루션으로 수백회의 잭업 작업에도 높은 성능과 안전성 및 내구성을 보장한다. 잭업 시스템의 에너지 재활용 기능 (Regenerative power feature)은 작업 중 발생하는 에너지를 선박의 전기 시스템으로 되돌려 보내 효율성을 극대화한다. 또한 본선에는 2,600톤 Leg-encircling 크레인 (크레인의 기반이 잭업 레그에 설치되는 형태의 메인 크레인) 이 설치되어 한국의 미래 해상풍력 요구사항에 대비할 수 있도록 설계되었다.
이번 신조 계약은 한화오션이 한국 해상풍력 분야의 선두주자가 되고자 하는 전략적 목표를 더욱 공고히 하는 계기가 될 것이다. NG-16000X를 통해 한화오션은 2035년까지 한국 정부의 25GW 풍력발전사업 개발 목표를 지원하는데 필요한 첨단 역량을 강화하는 동시에, 국내외 시장에서 더욱 폭넓은 해상풍력 및 청정에너지 인프라 사업 기회를 모색할 수 있게 되었다.

NOV has been awarded contracts, signed in mid-2025, for the design and supply of critical equipment for a next-generation wind turbine installation jack-up vessel, based on its proven GustoMSC NG-16000X design. This milestone project will see the construction of the advanced installation vessel by Hanwha Ocean, with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2028.
This marks the fourth NG-16000X to be built, following the initial US-built version and two units for Cadeler – both of which are being built by Hanwha Ocean. Tailored to meet Korea’s future demands in offshore wind installation, the NG-16000X offers enhanced carrying and lifting capacities, with longer legs designed to enable operations in greater water depths. Notably, the design is prepared for alternative fuel adaptations, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) and ammonia.
The jack-up vessel will feature the proprietary GustoMSC Rack & Pinion jacking system with a variable speed drive. A robust, integrated solution ensuring high performance, safety, and longevity across hundreds of jacking operations. The regenerative power feature of the jacking system allows energy generated during operations to be fed back into the vessel’s electrical system, maximizing efficiency. In addition, the vessel will be equipped with a 2,600-ton leg-encircling crane, ensuring readiness for future offshore wind market requirements in Korea.
This new contract reinforces Hanwha Ocean’s strategic ambition to become a leader in the Korean offshore wind sector.
